Asking key questions

But I hadn’t known the key questions to ask myself - the kind of questions a skilled career transition coach can guide you through.

I’d spent the year feeling rudderless because I hadn’t done the groundwork, not just choosing a field but figuring out What I wanted to do in that field:

  • The skills and experience I wanted to use, and those I didn’t

  • How I wanted to work and what mattered to me in my choices

  • What I wanted my life to be like

Embracing the new

I trained as a certified life coach, Designing Your Life coach and recently, Fireworks coach so that I could provide the best service to help others find their way through the brambles of overwhelm and self-doubt and clear a path to a life that really works for them.

Clients describe me as warm, perceptive - an empathetic straight-shooter who helps open up unsuspected options.

The urge for creative change

A dozen years ago, desperate to do something creative yet practical, I did a Global Fashion MBA at the IFM in Paris. My father had just died, my son was growing up, and I needed a real change of direction in my life.

It was a mind- and eye- opening experience. I was thrown in with a cohort of people, most of them twenty years younger than me, eager to find their new career direction. We explored all aspects of the fashion business, and hosted and visited our parallel cohorts in New York and Hong Kong.

But though I plunged myself into the work, exploring every avenue I as I searched for my own next step, I became increasingly aware that this was not my field anymore.

How I came to do this work

The Turning Point

But if not fashion, what?

It was only when some of my colleagues started to consult me regularly on their change of career and the consequent changes in their relationships that I realised that my own vocation was there, in helping others sort through their lives to discover who they really were and what they wanted their lives to be like.

I was lucky, my vocation, or key purpose, came to me by chance.
